One of the few granite peaks in the Sydney basin. A popular area for bouldering with amazing 360 degree views from the top. The return trip should take around two hours. The final climb to the summit is dangerous during wet weather as the rocks become very slippery.

Driving directions

Evans Crown is on Sodwalls Road between Lithgow and Tarana. Turn off Sodwalls Road onto Honey Suckle Falls Road. Follow this dirt road 1.5km until reaching a small car park where the walk to Evans Crown begins.

Directions to the summit

1. From the car park, follow the walking track up the hill. The track is well maintained and not too steep.

2. Once you reach the top of the ridge, turn left and follow a foot pad among the large boulders. There are some interesting caves and other rock formations to explore.

3. Evans Crown itself is the furthest south among the rocks. There is a narrow, steep cleft in the cliff climbing up the rocks.

4. At the top of the cleft, take a sharp turn back to your left, and begin scrambling clockwise around the mountain. You will find a second narrow, steep cleft heading further up toward the summit.

5. It is not possible to reach the actual top of Evans Crown. The top is a huge square boulder the size of a two storey house, with vertical walls on every side.
